Challenges getting Automotive Parts

I saw a video the other day by Jay W Case where he was comparing Harley-Davidson filters. Surprisingly, the US-made filter was crap compared to one made in Taiwan. This got me thinking about how many parts, maintenance supplies, and tools I have from Taiwan.

My favorite maker of hand tools, Tekton, are made in Taiwan. Going through my stash I found suspension parts, filters, and electrical components from Taiwan. Of course I found many things from China as well. Parts from Korea and Japan, too.

The products are great, but there are concerns that changing geopolitics could affect availability. I’m sure you’ve seen some of it on the news. Without getting too explicit, things could get very spicy between China and Taiwan. This could also disrupt shipping from nearby countries like Korea, Japan, Malaysia, etc.

Getting parts to maintain your ride is critical. I ask all of you to think about where your maintenance supplies come from, and how changing geopolitics could affect availability.

It might be a good idea to buy a few extra maintenance supplies or high wear items, so you’re not impacted by supply chain disruptions.

I like to keep this page light and fun, so I’m not likely to bring up geopolitical BS again. Watch the video below for recommendations on who to follow for good information on these topics.
