If you’ve never been to Inks Lake State Park it’s worth a visit. Even if the only reason is to drive Park Rd 4! The road is located in Texas Hill Country region 4, about 8 miles north of Marble Falls and 9 miles west of Burnet. The north entrance is off highway 29. The south is off highway 281. I enter on the south side in the video at the bottom of the page.
Park Rd 4 is 15.7 miles long and can best be described in two segments. The south segment has long straights with a couple of large elevation changes and a few high speed corners. The north segment has many more corners, mostly medium speed, and several elevation changes. The road surface is extremely well maintained with no hazards. The lanes are adequately wide enough that no oncoming traffic should enter your lane.
There are several places to pull over and enjoy the scenery. In the spring time you can expect many Texas wildflowers, including the iconic blue bonnets. Another surprise attraction on the road is Falkenstein Castle.
If you venture into the park, plan on spending the whole day. You’ll lose track of time enjoying the clear waters and pink rock formations. Hike out to Devil’s Waterhole for the complete experience.
